Washington DC, USA – May 6, 2025
Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, has arrived in Washington DC for a series of high-level meetings with officials from President Donald Trump’s administration.
According to an official statement from his office, Mudavadi touched down in the US on Tuesday, May 6, following an official invitation from the US government. This marks the first major diplomatic engagement between Kenya and the US since Trump’s re-election.
Mudavadi is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday, May 7. Their discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in key sectors such as trade, investment, and security.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary will also meet Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to advocate for the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). This trade agreement is critical for Kenyan exports to the US and supports thousands of jobs back home.
In a bid to attract more US investments to Kenya, Mudavadi will also hold talks with the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC). His schedule includes a business roundtable at the US Chamber of Commerce, where he will engage American investors on opportunities in Kenya’s growing economy.
This visit comes nearly a year after President William Ruto’s historic state visit to the United States in May 2024 — the first by an African leader since 2008. Mudavadi’s visit builds on that momentum and highlights Kenya’s growing role as a key strategic partner for the US in East Africa.
