Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi was conspicuously absent from Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting held at the Kakamega State Lodge, despite President William Ruto and 22 other Cabinet Secretaries being in attendance.
Images published by Citizen Digital confirmed that Muturi did not take part in the high-level session, fueling speculation about deepening tensions between him and the government.
Absence Linked to Abductions Standoff
According to sources and ongoing political developments, Muturi’s absence is tied to an escalating dispute with the State regarding the surge in abduction cases reported across Kenya in December 2024.
Muturi has in recent weeks openly criticized the security apparatus for failing to provide answers about the enforced disappearances targeting young Kenyans.
Muturi Reveals His Son Was Also Abducted
In a bold and emotional revelation, the Public Service CS disclosed that his own family has suffered the same ordeal.
He stated:
“I have personally suffered as my son was abducted, leaving my family in turmoil. I’ve not gotten any answers as to why my son was abducted, held incommunicado, and nobody gave any reasons for that abduction.”
His comments have intensified public debate over the government’s handling of security issues and the opaque circumstances surrounding the disappearances.
Political Backlash and Impeachment Threats
Muturi’s strong stance has drawn criticism from several political leaders.
National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro warned that Parliament could initiate impeachment proceedings if Muturi fails to retract his accusations and apologize to President Ruto.
However, Muturi dismissed the threats, signaling he will not bow to political pressure.
He responded:
“I will just say bring it on. At my age, I’m not the kind of person to respond to perfunctory statements made by fairly inexperienced politicians. They’re not worthy of my response. Anyone who thinks I didn’t know what I was doing is in for a rude shock.”
Growing Pressure on Government Over Rising Abductions
This standoff unfolds amid mounting public anxiety over the continued cases of abductions, with human rights groups and concerned Kenyans demanding transparency and swift action from security agencies.
Muturi’s outspoken frustrations and his absence from the Cabinet meeting have added new dimensions to the already heated national conversation.
