California Family Sues Funeral Home After Wrong Body Placed in Loved One’s Casket

A family in California is taking legal action against Harrison-Ross Mortuary in Compton after they claim the wrong body was placed in their loved one’s casket, dressed in his clothes. The deceased, Otis Adkinson, was 80 years old at the time of his passing.

⚠️ Family Shocked by Mistaken Burial

Otis’s niece, Amentha Hunt, said she went to the mortuary to say goodbye but was horrified to find a stranger’s body in her uncle’s casket, wearing his suit. When she raised the issue with funeral home staff, they initially insisted it was her uncle. Only after she showed a photo of Otis did a worker admit there could have been a mistake.

🕒 Trauma and Delay

The family described the incident as traumatizing. Amentha had to wait three hours before her real uncle’s body was brought out for burial. She said she will never forget seeing the wrong man in Otis’s suit and still visualizes the image today.

⚖️ Legal Action and Funeral Home Response

Amentha’s lawyer, Elvis Tran, called the error serious and deeply hurtful, stating the mortuary failed to follow basic care and respect procedures. He emphasized the need for the funeral home to improve its handling of bodies to prevent future incidents.

Harrison-Ross Mortuary has denied the family’s claims and stated it intends to issue a cease-and-desist letter to Amentha Hunt.
